Monthly Guild Meetings
On the second Thursday of each month we bring in a speaker from the fiber arts community to present. The meetings will be hybrid, both in person and virtual, unless otherwise stated. Doors for the in person meeting will open at 6 p.m. for social knitting at Rose City Park Presbyterian Church. Masks are recommended, but not required. Planning on joining us in person? Please RSVP to let us know. Plan on being there before the programming at 7 p.m. Doors close at 7 p.m. If you are feeling unwell, please take the opportunity to join us virtually. Virtual meetings start with the evening's programming at 7 p.m. We are currently using Zoom for our virtual meeting space.
Policy Regarding Moving Meetings to Virtual Only
In times of inclement weather, insufficient volunteers, or as ordained by public health guidelines, meetings may change from a hybrid format to virtual only. The Board will make every effort to notify membership of these changes as soon as reasonably possible, but no later than noon on the day of the Guild Meeting. Thank you for understanding.

GUILD MEETING
October 10, 7 p.m. (hybrid meeting) Shelia January Travels in the Knitting World As Sheila travels she spends time with knitters and other fiber people, learning about their inspirations and collecting design ideas and tips based on their fiber traditions. This presentation will include photos as well as stories and information about some of the countries and regions. Shelia has been a knitter since she was eight years old growing up on a farm. She knits and designs with her handspun yarn as well as with commercial yarn, and has taught fiber activities classes extensively in the US and UK. Her writing and patterns have been published in a number of books and magazines. She has also judged at many different fiber arts venues. |
GUILD MEETING
November 14, 7 p.m. (hybrid meeting) Kira Dulaney Visible Mending Visible Mending is a creative way to extend the life of clothing and household items while embellishing them for a unique look. Kira Dulaney of Kira K Designs is a pattern designer, teacher, and lifelong crafter who enjoys extending the life of both handmade and commercial textiles. Kira will show methods for woven mends with Speedweve style looms as well as decorative embroidery, and discuss when patching is a necessary addition. Afterward, you'll look at holes and stains as opportunities rather than tragedies! |
GUILD MEETING
December 12, 7 p.m. (hybrid meeting) Elizabeth Okeyele-Olatunji 20 Fun Ways to Get the Creative Juices Flowing! Elizabeth is a full-time handwork teacher for children. She specializes in textile and yarn craft, knitting & crochet, and nurturing creativity in children. In 2023, she was invited to share her inspiring journey of visiting Kenya to teach kids to knit in a Center for Knit and Crochet meetup. She and her team have set a goal to reach 20,000 African children with the skills of knitting and crochet. You can find her works on her business page, facebook.com/Tunnizzecreation. She is a Craft Yarn Council certified knitting teacher and a member of the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria. She has a background in textile technology and recently concluded her professional diploma in education. |
GUILD MEETING
March 13, 7 p.m. (hybrid meeting) Laurel Kaufman The Lace Knitters of Estonia Past and Present Laurel will describe her mentorship with one of the members of the Haapsula Knitting Guild. The presentation will include photos of the museum, the town, and the midsummer festival. Her presentation will cover the history of the guild and the difference between Estonian lace shawls and Shetland shawls. Laurel will bring several pieces of guild work and examples of some of the details in making the shawls and talk about the knupps. She will show the needles they use and share their preferred yarn. |
