Governance

Mission and Vision

Welcome to Puddletown Knitters Guild, established in November of 2017. 


Our mission is to promote a diverse community of knitters of all abilities, to support local fiber providers and artists from farm to needles, to model respect for the local fiber community by actively valuing their time and expertise. 

We welcome all fiber crafters regardless of race, color, nationality, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, socio-economic status, neurodivergence, and/or disability. We aim to create a community that is inclusive, diverse, and accessible by promoting anti-racism, equity, equality, and justice. ​

We see Fiberarts as a vital and respected part of Portland art culture; we see the continued tradition of knitting with an increased awareness of knitting in the general public; and we see knitters positively impacting the neighboring community.

Finances

As a 501(c3), the Guild's finances are available to the public. Quarterly reports can be downloaded from the Guild Treasurer Reports Archive.

Our bylaws require board elections each year during the November meeting.  Board members are elected to two-year terms, with part of the board staying on and part being newly elected.   If you'd like to be more involved with programming, special events, or administration within the Guild, we're looking for members to help sustain and grow our board over the coming years. Let us know by sending a note to info@puddletownknittersguild.com​, or letting one of the board members know at the meetings.

Descriptions of the current roles on the board are below. Our bylaws require a president, secretary, and treasurer—the last two roles may be combined or separated as needed. The bylaws also require at least two more  board members (or three more, if secretary and treasurer are combined). The responsibilities of these at large positions may change and more at large board members may be added as the guild evolves. 

President
This person is responsible for keeping a broad view on guild activities, for acting as a safety net for other board members, and for picking up the tasks that fall between the responsibilities of other board members. 

​Secretary
This person is responsible for maintaining guild records including board meeting minutes (This role may be combined with Treasurer or separated as needed)

Treasurer
This person is responsible for maintaining guild finances including paying speakers, etc. (This role may be combined with Secretary or separated as needed)

Communications
This role coordinates social media (including Facebook, Instagram and Twitter), the Guild website, and email communications (including the monthly newsletter).

Events 
This role is responsible for coordinating special events and guild classes, as well as participation in community events including conferences/conventions.

Programming 
This role is responsible for the content portion of the monthly meetings by identifying speaker and topic ideas and scheduling them.

Committee Members

Communications
These committee members take care of various communication functions such as social media (including Facebook, Instagram and Twitter), the Guild website, the blog, and email communications (including the monthly newsletter). Ideally there are several communications committee members. They report to the Communications Board Member.

Outreach 
This committee member is responsible for coordinating Guild service project and other charitable actions. They report to the Board President.

Volunteer Coordinator
This committee member helps members get involved in guild events by recruiting and supervising volunteers. They report to the Volunteer Board Member.

Meeting Volunteers

Volunteers make it possible for all our guild events to go smoothly. They help us set up, greet visitors, bring snacks, and put away chairs and tables at our monthly meetings, as well as helping with our other guild events. We can't thank our generous volunteers enough.
