Anna thanked the volunteers and introduced Julie, the volunteer chair. Julie asked for volunteers to table for the Gathering of the Guilds on April 25-27th at the Oregon Convention Center. People will spend half a day and we hope to have at least two people at a time, so volunteers won't be alone. Julie also noted that the guild is still in need of someone with social media experience and other communications tasks to volunteer whatever time they can. Please Email [email protected] if you can aid. Sioux came up to talk a bit about the fifth annual Knit for Food, April 5th, there will be an in-person meeting to support from 10am - 2pm on the 5th at Rose City Park Presbyterian Church, though not in the same room. Please follow the signs. Judy Anderson, the service project coordinator, talked up the service project for this year, currently we have a drive for hats for our service partner the North by Northeast Community Health Center. So far they have 35 items and are shooting for 75 hats. Judy said she'd be bringing a knitting machine to Knit for Food, so folk should come make some hats! Knitters can email [email protected] for drop off location. Anyone who knits hats will be entered into the annual Service Project raffle, the knitter who makes the most hats will be one of the winners. Hats should be made with machine washable yarn, a variety of colors, and some larger sizes to fit hairstyles like dreadlocks are encouraged. There were no submitted tips this month, so Joanne, the vice president gave us a small tip: use nail clippers as yarn snips, most of us have them and they are easy to carry. Please submit any big or small tips to [email protected] Anna gave us the meeting numbers
Anna then introduced Laurel Kaufman, the speaker. Laurel has been knitting since 12 and has spent more than 8 years knitting lace. Laurel gave us a long and interesting talk about her travels and knowledge of Estonian lace. She showed many beautiful pictures of the lace and the various people who have shown it to her. Show and tell was wonderful as usual, and the raffle winners were thrilled. Next month's meeting will be on April 10th at 7pm Lorajean of Knitted Wit: How a Colorway is born.
